About Me

I did my tea sommelier’s degree in London, I currently reside in Zurich, but tea connects the world. In fact, tea is the most often drunk beverage worldwide after water.

And You’re a What ?

A tea sommelier. You may have heard of a wine sommelier or a beer sommelier. All these are professionals who specialize in their particular drinks area. Tea sommeliers are an extremely rare breed (but admittedly not as rare as water sommeliers – if you drink water very carefully you will find that not all water tastes the same – or milk sommeliers. I’ve only ever heard of two water sommeliers but know more than that number of tea sommeliers, and until recently would not even have suspected there is a milk sommelier).

You will get by in life if you never meet a tea sommelier. Admittedly, you can lead a blissful life without one. It’s probably a little like buying milk from the supermarket or fresh from the farm and never giving the quality of your drink a thought. When it comes to tea, however, there is a lot to be discovered. This is where the tea sommelier comes in. A tea sommelier can take you on an adventurous journey with your cup and you’ll soon look at it in a different way. Along this path, you will learn how to prepare a variety of teas; you will realise that the correct water temperature makes a difference; why some teas can be brewed up repeatedly while others cannot; what time to drink which tea; whether to add sugar or not, which teas go with which meals; where it is considered terribly rude to refuse tea laced with smelly fermented mare’s milk; where you must drink at least three cups as a guest and what to do to stop the ordeal if the host keeps filling up even though you’ve already had ten cups, etc. etc. etc. The list is seemingly endless.

If you would like to increase your pleasure in tea drinking, do please contact me for a meeting, enrol for one of my courses, or have a course tailored to your needs. If you run a hotel or a restaurant and you would like to elevate the tea drinking experience of your guests, do contact me, too. I am not sponsored by any seller or producer and I will thus be in a position to advise you entirely independently.
